ALQARNI REEM, Saudi Arabia, TUNEM class of 2022, graduated in July, 2024
What was I do before TUNEM and why TUNEM?
Before joining TUNEM, I worked as a researcher, focusing on various research projects in the Energy and Power sector. My work spanned across areas such as semiconductors, optoelectronics, LEDs and lighting and lasers. I was committed to executing my tasks to the highest standard and frequently collaborated on projects beyond my primary responsibilities to broaden my expertise in the energy sector. This exploration helped me identify areas of deeper interest that could spark my passion and focus.
In addition to my research work, I participated in numerous training courses offered by my employer, which further enriched my knowledge and skills. The institute I worked for also provided training for graduate students and supported gifted students in preparing for science competitions, including the Olympics in various fields. As researchers, we were responsible for mentoring and training these students, guiding them towards achieving their goals.
After working on various projects in the energy sector and conducting extensive research, I decided to pursue a master's degree in Nuclear Power Engineering. I explored top universities in the field and discovered that Tsinghua University ranked highly in this area. I applied for the Energy and Nuclear Power Engineering and Management program, and upon receiving admission, I applied for a scholarship through my job. I was awarded the scholarship as I met all the criteria, including the global ranking of the university and the program.
It was a goal I worked diligently towards, and it took five years of effort to achieve this opportunity, which I am proud to have secured.
My job after TUNEM. How does TUNEM support my career development?
After completing the TUNEM program, I returned to my job and proudly uploaded my new degree to the system, applying for a promotion. I received a significant promotion along with a salary increase of over 60%. I then transitioned to the Nuclear Technology Department, where I began working on research reactors and other related projects. I truly enjoy applying the knowledge I gained through my studies in the TUNEM program at Tsinghua University.
What makes it even more remarkable is that TUNEM continued to support my development by arranging training opportunities with famed Chinese companies in the nuclear industry. This experience solidified the foundation of my education and made it stronger. I had the chance to observe and understand the practical application of what I had studied in the curriculum, all under the supervision of industry experts. The TUNEM program elevated my understanding of the nuclear sector, enabling me to confidently work on nuclear projects and actively contribute to discussions in meetings.

I deeply appreciate this unique opportunity because I believe few universities in the world offer such specialized training. Most importantly, Tsinghua doesn’t abandon its students after graduation. They continue to track their progress in the nuclear sector and provide ongoing support. Recently, my supervisor from CNNC reached out to invite me to witness the fuel loading process at Unit 1 in Zhangzhou. Professor Tao Tao gave me a detailed explanation of the process and continued to guide me, even contacting me while I am in Saudi Arabia to further enhance my knowledge in the nuclear industry.

I am truly grateful and proud to have learned under the supervision of Professor Tao Tao. It is truly amazing how TUNEM and its expert supervisors care for their students even after graduation, staying in touch with them around the world!
Today, I can confidently say that I have found my passion in a specific sector, and I am incredibly happy to have reached this destination.
Thank you TUNEM program.
