2024 Workshop of TUNEM Joint Committee and Steering Committee Successfully Held

The 2024 Workshop of the Tsinghua University International Master's Program in Nuclear Engineering and Management (TUNEM) Joint Committee and Steering Committee was held on December 24, 2024, in Liuqing Building, Tsinghua University. Attendees include representatives from shareholders, such as Mr. Li Ze from the National Energy Administration, Mr. Gou Feng from the Nuclear Power Development Center, Mr. Huang Meide from China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), Mr. Liao Hongbiao from China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), and Mr. Cao Jishuang from State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and representatives from Tsinghua University included Dr. Zhang Yousheng, Prof. Tong Jiejuan, Prof. Wang Haitao, Prof. Huang Wenhui, Prof. Zeng Zhi, and Prof. Yang Yigang.


Prof. Yang, director of TUNEM, presented the 2024 TUNEM implementation report and 2025 work plan. He highlighted that the program received applications from students across 23 countries this year. To date, TUNEM has trained approximately 200 students from over 30 countries, most of which are countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.


Representatives from the three nuclear power groups shared their involvement in the program. They emphasized the program's significance in strengthening international scientific talent exchange and enhancing global brand recognition. The groups highlighted their extensive overseas networks - CNNC with seven overseas offices, CGN's international business development, and SPIC's operations across 23 countries and regions - which can provide broad career development opportunities for graduates.


Participants agreed that TUNEM serves as a crucial platform for nuclear power talent cultivation and plays a vital role in promoting international cooperation and serving national strategies. Future efforts will focus on strengthening university-enterprise collaboration, optimizing the curriculum, and expanding international influence.


In his concluding remarks, Mr. Li highly commended TUNEM's achievements and emphasized its importance in supporting the Belt and Road Initiative. He provided several key suggestions, including maintaining high-level admission standards, optimizing courses’ design, expanding admission channels, strengthening alumni network, enhancing communication with embassies, and developing premium programs based on enterprise needs and national strategies.


Overview of  TUNEM

TUNEM (Tsinghua University International Master’s Program in Nuclear Engineering and Management) is a 2-year professional degree program, which is greatly supported by the National Energy Administration of China and the Ministry of Education of China with a full scholarship. Meanwhile, the three major nuclear power groups in China, China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), also provide support. Every year TUNEM admits 30 applicants with outstanding academic background and global vision in the field of nuclear engineering and management, who are willing to further their studies in China and to contribute to the cooperation between China and their motherlands.
