Dr. Jiajun Liao from the University of Hawaii Invited to the 219th DEP Forum

On May 10th, Dr. Jiajun Liao from the University of Hawaii was invited to the Department of Engineering Physics and attended the 219th DEP Forum. Dr. Liao gave the talk Nonstandard Interactions at Neutrino Oscillation Experiments, chaired by Prof. Hong-Jian He.

A model-independent way of studying new physics in neutrino oscillation experiments is provided by the framework of nonstandard interactions (NSI). In this talk, Dr. Liao showed that a hint of NSI may exist in the current NOvA and T2K data. Sensitivities to SM and NSI parameters at future long-baseline neutrino experiments such as DUNE, T2HK and T2HKK were discussed. Detection of NSI in solar neutrino oscillations with Hyper-Kamiokande and JUNO was also explored.
