On October 15th, the Opening Ceremony of SPIC internship for TUNEM 2019 students was held in Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute (SNERDI) in the afternoon. Professor Chen Shaomin, Director of Institute of Modern Physics Department of Engineering Physics Tsinghua University. Mr. Cheng Xiaohong, Deputy Director of Department of International Business from SPIC. Mr. Yan Jinquan Vice President and Chief Engineer of SNERDI, Mr. Li Gang Director of Human Resource Department of SNERDI. Mr. Zhu Meng and relevant leaders from Shanghai Power Equipment Research Institute (SPERI) and Nuclear Power Plant Service Company (SNPSC) participated in the ceremony. 26 students of TUNEM 2019 attended this activity online or offline. The Opening Ceremony was hosted by Li Gang.
After a brief introduction. Mr. Yan Jinquan gave welcome remarks to TUNEM students. In his remarks, he highlighted how SNERDI have been involved in nuclear power reactor design and research over years. He also emphasized on SNERDI’s involvement in research and design of different Generations Nuclear Power Plants.
Professor Chen Shaomin expressed his gratitude towards leaders and peers who continuously support talent cultivation through TUNEM program. Professor Chen briefed about achievements of SNERDI in 50 years since its establishment in the field of nuclear power development.
He also extended his best wishes for TUNEM 2019 students who are attending this internship online and offline from 13 countries. He explained that with the support of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), State Power Invest Corporation (SPIC) and China General Nuclear Corporation (CGN), students of Tsinghua University could access to professional and engineering practice in enterprises, which enable them to directly face the industry development demand and provide them with good growth environment. He hoped that both online and offline students can communicate with each other to overcome difficulties and gain valuable experience from the internships.
Mr. Wu Hao, representative of enterprise tutors, welcomed all the students and extended his best wishes for all the students. In the end, Mr. Zhu Meng, assistant director of SNERDI Human Resources Department, introduced TUNEM Professional Practice of SPIC.
Three representatives from TUNEM 2019 program also gave their remarks. Mr. Haroon Rasheed from Pakistan, Mr. Ahmet Yasin Yildiran from Turkey and Miss. Dzofor Yvonne Sefakor from Ghana representing TUNEM 2019 program acknowledged the efforts by Department of Engineering physics Tsinghua University and SPIC to make these internship sessions possible. Students thanked the organizing bodies and students attending online showed keen interest in their return to school. Students also briefed about how insightful and enriching their previous internship sessions have been and that now they are looking forward to learn from upcoming internship sessions of SPIC to further refine their research interests and to motivate them to polish their research and learning potential.
